McDonald's Re-Branding

Just a couple of years ago or so, I heard about McDonald's plan to change the whole feel of their resturaunt into a more sofisticated envioronment. Being that they have been know for their bold, bright red and yellow primary colors for decades, the idea seemed to be too far fetched to me. Slowly, I started to notice changes. I travel back and forth between the South Bay and San Gabriel Valley almost on a daily basis and I stop at several McDonald's for their coffee while doing so. Not only have they attracted java lovers with their new line, but the overall feel of the restaurant is improving. I believe this is due to their branding.
This is one of McDonald's chains in Hacienda Heights California. There is a large Asian community in this city, so M D's decided to appeal to the surrounding area by using the principles of feng shui, which is the ancient Chinese practice of arranging objects and numbers to promote health, harmony and prosperity.
I did a presentation for my marketing class about retail design and this was one of my examples. It seems that their concepts are working because I live in Monterey Park which is pretty much an Asian community and I've noticed a lot more elderly people visiting the restaurants for their morning coffee. Either it's the appeal of the design or they just love the McDonald's coffee. :P
ReplyDeleteThis McDonalds looks awesome. I would definitely like to eat there because it doesn't look as trashy as most other fast food places look. And you definitely can't go wrong with a little more feng shui in your life. I like how McDonalds decided to take into account the city that they were building in and the new clientele.
